Charleston, SC was around an 8-hour drive from the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, VA.  Nadia and I got an early start, because I wanted to arrive at the KOA during daylight.  Talk about a long drive!

When we finally arrived in Charleston, SC, I was not prepared for the traffic we encountered.  There was a lot of Road Construction and it was storming L The traffic was stop and go.  The good news is we did reach the Mt. Pleasant KOA before dark.  It was around 6p.m.  The office was closed already though.  Since I had booked our campsite before we came, our key was awaiting us.  I say key, because we were staying in a caboose.  Yes, you read that right; it was a big red old train Caboose.

Kitchen/Dining Room Area
When you first walk into the Caboose, you enter the living area where there is a futon and TV.  Then there is the dining area with table and chairs and kitchen with sink, coffee maker, fridge and a two-burner portable stove.  Next are the sleeping quarters, which are two sets of bunk beds.  I slept in one of the top bunks, it was comfortable, but my feet were up against the wall.  I am 5’6. The last room is the bathroom.  No shower, but nice little bathroom.  The Caboose comes with air conditioning, but bring your own bedding.  Outside the Caboose, you have a picnic table and fire pit. Our Caboose was located on a huge lake.  This was a very beautiful and spacious campground.  We stayed for two nights and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
