The Peaks of Otter Lodge, Blue Ridge Parkway, VA
Sharp Top Mountain - Peaks of Otter
Unfortunately I could feel a migraine coming on. I knew I better just take it easy and rest a little. Nadia worked on her cross-stitch and read her book “Hoot” that was assigned to them to read in school over the summer. As I closed my eyes, I had a bad dream. People were looking at an overlook and here comes my car driving off the side. OK again, I admit, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway did cause me a bit of stress. (But I really was glad I did it) Any way my head was still pounding and I realized I was now going to have to cancel our trip to Natural Bridge. Time was ticking away. Maybe we could stop off there tomorrow morning.
Storm Rolling In - Peaks of Otter Lodge
About an hour later my head was still hurting, but I was like we need to get out and explore. Nadia and I grabbed our cameras and headed out. The weather was not looking good. We got two pictures taken and it started raining. When we got back to the room, it was thundering and lightning. It was very dark now and the wind was blowing really hard. The rain lasted for about an hour.
When the rain ended, Nadia and I ventured out again. This time the sun was out. We decided to walk on the trail around Abbott Lake. After we got over to the side by the Parkway, I saw a deer run down the hill from the road. Then we noticed there were more than one deer, there was about six! We got to walk right past them. Awesome!!! The trail then led us into the woods, where you could see the Lodge from across the lake.
After we were done with the trail, we headed over to the restaurant to eat dinner. The restaurant had a nice view of the lake to admire. While we were eating, I overheard some people saying that the earlier storm was so bad that trees were knocked down on the Parkway!! I sure was glad that we were not on the road then or now. Our dinner was very good and we received good service.

When we got back to our room after our dinner, Nadia finished her first Cross-Stitch and I read my book out on the balcony. When it got dark, we ventured out on the grounds again to try to catch lightning bugs. Nadia wanted to catch one, but was afraid to touch it. While we were running around, you could hear bullfrogs making their loud sounds all around. This was a very pretty place to stay.Cross-Stitch Kits for Kids - Search for kits here at Amazon
