Summer Vacation 2013 to Smoky Mountains and Beyond

Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains

Well this summer vacation proved to be very interesting.  After hearing about our adventures over the years, my sister decided she wanted to come with us on our trip into the mountains.  She is not an outdoor person, but she wanted to give it a try.

In order for my sister to come with us, we needed a cabin with a bathroom inside.  No port-a-pot or comfort station for her, so when we stayed at the KOA Townsend Campground we stayed in the Deluxe Cabin.  I have to agree with my sister, it was much more convenient and very nice.  I will talk more about it in the following posts.

It turned out to be a good thing that my sister decided to come along, not only for the more comfortable cabin choice, but I ended up needing help big time.  I had some minor surgery done a month before our vacation, which decided to give me trouble the night before our trip!  The Dr. had to call in an antibiotic for me and I could not lift anything!  My daughter and my sis had to unpack and repack up the car for the whole trip.  I felt sooo bad for them and we could not go horseback riding.  I offered to look around the visitor center while they went, but they felt bad leaving me alone.  I ended up having to be on antibiotics for 3 weeks, not fun, but doing better now.

Not only did we go to the Smoky Mountains, we stayed at the Pisgah Inn two nights and visited the Biltmore Estates.  We hiked Linville Falls on the Blue-Ridge Parkway and finished off at Grandfather Mountain in NC.

This is just an overview of the upcoming posts. - Hope you enjoy!
