Our Peaceful Drive Through Cades Cove

The next place we visited on our vacation, was Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains.  This is one of my favorite places to visit.  I really think I could spend the day here.

Cades Cove is just a great place to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings.  There are cabins and churches to explore; a visitor center; wildlife to see and an 11-Mile loop road to tour.

There is also hayrides and horseback riding.  I was hoping to finally get a chance to horseback ride on this trip, but was not able to.  Hopefully next time.  We have tried the Ranger led hayrides in the past.  These are good and the ranger can sign your Junior Ranger book to help earn a badge for the kids.

You can read more about what you will see on the 11-Mile Loop Road by reading my older post here.  We drove the loop road twice, we never got to see any bears, but we did have a deer cross in front of our car.

My sister really enjoyed that!  We also saw a lot of these colorful butterflies.

If you enjoy taking your time and admiring nature, you will enjoy Cades Cove.  It does get hot in the summer though, so go early in the morning or late afternoon.

Afterwards we headed back to the KOA Cabin.  My sister was going to take Nadia tubing on the river. Since I was not able to go, I was going to sit on our deck and take pictures of them flying by.  Well, the river was closed down for tubing.  The water was too rough and people were getting injured.  I am glad they could not go and that they were safe.  They went swimming at the pool instead and still had fun.

See, it's all about making lemonade out of lemons :)
