Staying at the Peaks of Otter Lodge Again - 2014

Peaks of Otter Lodge
The Peaks of Otter Lodge is located right on the Blue-Ridge Parkway in VA.  This is such a peaceful place to stay and this was our second visit.

The above photo was the view from our room.  The Lodge is only two stories and the rooms are considered outdated to most, but the room was fine to us.  There is wifi, but I had a hard time getting the phone to work here.  This is just a great area to relax and hike.

Abbott Lake
All rooms have a view of Abbott Lake and Sharp Top.  There is also a restaurant and lounge on site.
I had the best squash with my dinner.

Sharp Top
I was hoping to go to the top of Sharp Top, but things did not work out that way.  The hike is up is rated strenuous, but the lodge offers a shuttle ride on Wednesday through Sundays til 4 p.m.  We were too late for the shuttle.

Instead we walked around the property.

This little path through the tunnel, actually takes you underneath the Blue-Ridge Parkway to another hiking trail which leads to a farm.

We saw quite a few deer walking and running around.

This little cabin was called Polly Woods "Ordinary" which was the first lodging for travelers starting in  the early 1830s.  Thank goodness the Lodge was built since then.

A power outage occurred at 11:00 p.m. while we were there and it was pitch black, so remember to bring a flashlight with you just in case.  I was glad we had ours. It only lasted about 2 hours, but with the air turned off, you could really hear the bull frogs talking at night.

I really enjoyed reading on the porch, admiring the view and the watching the fireflies.  To me this was very peaceful.

You can read more about Peaks of Otter at their website here or you can read my past blog of our stay here.
